Biography
Alfréd Hampel has studied the Prague conservatoire and the Academy of Performing Arts as an organist. He studied singing privately with Professor Miloš Linka. He exert the practice gained at stages outside of Prague first in a two-year engagement in Brandenburg, Germany, where he had among others created the character of Belmont in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, as well as the Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Rudolfo in La Bohème or Cavaradossiho in Tosca. He has been a National Theatre soloist in years 1973-2002, now he performs there as a regular guest. Here, his musicality, a light tenor and comic talent exert mainly in buffo and noble field. He has given excellent performances as Vašek in The Bartered Bride, Michálek in The Devil’s Wall, Skřivánek in The Secret, Constable in The Kiss, or Benda in The Jacobin. He was unforgettable as Triquet in Eugene Onegin or Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro. His concert activities are rich, he co-operates with radio and television. In 1992 he participated at the opera festival in Hersfeld where he sang the Principal in The Bartered Bride. Lately, in the National Theatre, he has studied the roles of Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Remendado in Carmen, the Musician in The Devil and Kate and Spoletta in Tosca.
