Biography

The soprano Alexandra Lubchansky completed her studies of piano and composition at the Music Conservatory in St Petersburg, her native city. After piano studies in Tel Aviv and Frankfurt, she won the first prize at the Nikolai Rubinstein International Piano Competition held in Paris. From 2000 to 2003 she studied voice at Karlsruhe Opera School under the tutelage of Prof. Roland Hermann. In September 2003, she was awarded the prize of the European Foundation for Culture in Lucerne.
Guest engagements have taken her to the Semperoper Dresden, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, the New National Theatre Tokyo, the Frankfurt Opera and festivals in Salzburg and Baden-Baden. Her opera repertoire includes Mozart’s roles (Contessa Almaviva, Donna Anna, Queen of the Night, Konstanze, Blonde), Italian operas (Lucia, Rosina, Imogene, Norma, Amina, Gilda, Violetta, Musetta and Liù) and parts by Wagner and Richard Strauss (Woglinde, Flower Girl, Zerbinetta and Fiakermilli). She has worked with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Paavo Järvi, Ivor Bolton, Stefan Soltesz, Emanuel Krivine, Lothar Zagrosek, Johannes Kalitzke and Paolo Carignani as well as with opera directors such as Christof Loy and Nikolaus Lehnhoff. Alexandra Lubchansky is also a keen concert singer and an experienced interpreter of contemporary music (Hans Werner Henze, Elliott Carter, Wolfgang Rihm, Morton Feldman, Matthias Pintscher, Christian Jost, Manfred Trojahn, Peter Ruzicka).
