Aga Mikolaj

Biography

Comes from Polish Kutno. She graduated from the Poznan Academy of Performing Arts and completed a scholarship at Hochschule für Musik in Vienna and master courses with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf’s in Austria and with Renata Scotto in the Netherlands. She is a holder of several prestigious awards: Special Award at Ada Sari Competition in Novy Sacz (1995), G.F.Händel’s award at 41st International Vocal Competition in Hertogensboch in the Netherlands (1996), Award of Polish critiques for young artists in Poznan (1998) and second prize and Verdi’s prize at Alfred Kraus competition in Las Palmas (1999). Aga Mikolaj has been a member of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich since 2002, before which she performed in leading Polish and European opera houses (Chamber opera Poznan, National Theatre Warsaw, Opera Lodz, Opera Dolnoslaska Wroclaw, Theatre Luxemburg, Theatre Heilbronn). Her repertoire includes numerous roles from world opera literature: Clorinda (Tancredo et Clorinda), Galina (Galina), Xenie (Boris Godunov), Micaela (Carmen), Contess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Violatta (La Traviata), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and many others. She has concerted on many world stages, especially in Utrecht, Poznan, Las Palmas, Krakow, Barcelona, Montreal, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. This is her first guest performance in The National Theatre.
