Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera.
Adriana Kučerová studied voice at the Conservatory and the Academy of music in Bratislava, and subsequently at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon. She became the laureate of the European Music Prize for Youth in Hamburg (2001), Internationale Sommer Akademie Prag-Wien-Budapest 2002 and the winner of the prestigious International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna in 2005. At the Slovak National Theatre she has sung Morgana in Händel’s Alcina, the First Wood Sprite in Dvořák’s Rusalka  and Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. In 2006 she debuted as Serpetta (Mozart: La finta giardiniera) at the Mozartwoche Salzburg and at the Salzburger Festspiele conducted by Ivor Bolton. A recording of this production was released on a DVD by Deutsche Grammophon. At Milan’s La Scala she performed in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas  under the baton of Christopher Hogwood. At Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper she won great acclaim for her portrayal of Sophie (Massenet: Werther). In 2007 she sang Ninetta (Mozart: La finta semplice) at the Theater an der Wien, conducted by Fabio Luisi. In the 2007/08 season she made her debut with Glyndebourne Touring Opera as Adina (L’elisir d’amore) and at Paris’s Opéra-Bastille as one of Klingsor’s flower maidens in Wagner’s Parsifal. In 2008 she performed the role of Gretel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel) at the Glyndebourne festival and at the Theater an der Wien she created Anne Truelove (Stravinsky: The Rake’s Progress) under the baton of Nicolaus Harnoncourt. In 2009, she sang Marzelline (Beethoven: Fidelio) at the Salzburger Festspiele and at the BBC Proms in London (both productions conducted by Daniel Barenboim) and Mercédès (Bizet: Carmen) in La Scala under the baton of Daniel Barenboim. In 2010 she performed, among other roles, Norina (Donizetti: Don Pasquale) in Dallas and Janáček’s vixen Bystrouška in Paris opera, in 2011 she sang Adina in Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and Bayerische Staatsoper, Susanna (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro) in Houston and Nannetta (Verdi: Falstaff) in Toulouse. In Apríl 2012, she debuted as Adina at the Wiener Staatsoper and in June and July she created Gilda (Verdi: Rigoletto) in Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. Highlights of the 2012/13 season include performances at the Wiener Staatsoper, Händel‘s Messiah with Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Ensemble Mattheus in Hamburg, Anne Trulove at the Staatsoper Berlin, Lisaura in Handel's Alessandro  in Versailles and a major European tour of Handel's Orlando  with Jean-Christophe Spinosi.
