The premiere of Jiří Heřman’s innovative new staging of Schubert’s song cycle: an intimate dialogue of words and music in the unique space of Barrandov Studio – atelier No. 4 (address: Kříženeckého nám. 322/5, Praha 5 - Hlubočepy).

The Winter’s Journey, a song cycle for tenor and piano, is one of the great works of the romantic composer Franz Schubert. The 24 songs – a poetic picture of human solitude and the search for a way out of it – were composed in 1827, towards the end of Schubert’s brief life, and based on the poems of Wilhelm Muller. Schubert worked in the song form throughout his creative life – and it was the form best-suited to his talent for melodic lyricism. Franz Liszt called Schubert the most poetic of all musicians.

And there is poetry and lyricism aplenty in this new staging by Jiri Herman, one of the most noteworthy Czech opera directors, whose work unites music, sound, and space to create a unique experience for the audience.
