Soloist of the Opera
Václav Sibera studied at the Prague Conservatoire clarinet (1991-97) and opera singing (1993-99). He has taken part in a host of several international singing competitions, including the Antonín Dvořák Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary (1998), the Ema Destinnová Competition in České Budějovice (2001), and the Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition in Deutschlandsberg (2001), where he was a finalist. He debuted in the role of Masetto (Mozart: Don Giovanni) with the Prague Opera Mozart stagiona production in 1996. From 1999 to 2011 he was a soloist of the Prague State Opera. In 2003, he debuted at the Prague's National Theatre in the new production of Leoš Janáček's The Excursions of Mr. Brouček (conductor: Sir Charles Mackerras). Since January 2012 he has been a soloist of the Czech National Opera. With the Prague State Opera ensemble he toured Japan (January 2005) and Seoul, South Korea (April, 2005, the Beseto Opera). In 2007, he cooperated on a recording of Janáček' The Excursions of Mr. Brouček with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London under the baton of Jiří Bělohlávek (Deutsche Grammophon).
