Biography
Born in Moscow, soprano Olga Romanko graduated from the Gnessin Conservatory in Moscow. In 1987, she became the winner of the International Singing Competition in Rio de Janeiro, and subsequently took part in masterclasses at the Teatro Regio di Parma. Since 1988, she has performed at the major opera and concert houses throughout the world including Vienna State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviva, Arena di Verona, Megaron in Athens, the Baths of Caracalla in Roma, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, New Jersey Opera and at the opera houses in Moscow, Zurich, Barcelona, Athens, Roma, Naples, Bologna, Toulon, Parma, Helsinki, Lisbo, Antwerp and many others. Her reperoire includes the pivotal roles, such as Verdi‘s Aida, Desdemona (Otello), Leonora (Il trovatore and La forza del destino), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Elvira (Ernani) and Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Puccini‘s Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot and Manon Lescaut, Cilea‘s Adriana Lecouvreur, Leoncavallo‘s Nedda (I pagliacci), Mascagni‘s Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Elisa (The Queen of Spades), Dvořák‘s Vanda and Rusalka, Smetana‘s Milada (Dalibor) and Šárka. Olga Romanko has collaborated with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Bruno Campanella, Marco Armiliato, Gerd Albrecht or Daniele Gatti and she has performed with Plácido Domingo, José Cura, Juan Pons and Renato Bruson. Her discography includes the recordings of Puccini’s Suor Angelica (under the baton of Bruno Bartoletti) for Decca, two records of Verdi’s Requiem for Capriccio Digital and Ars Musici, Dvořák's Vanda and the Princess (The Devil and Kate) under Gerd Albrecht’s baton for Orfeo, Verdi‘s Aida for United Classics etc. In the Czech Republic, Olga Romanko has guest appeared at the National Theatre in Prague, National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava and at the Revolving theatre at Český Krumlov Castle.Update: September 2015
