Biography

Icelandic baritone Ólafur Sigurdarson made his National Theatre Opera debut on June 8, 2017 as Telramund (Lohengrin). His repertoire include Verdi’s Rigoletto, Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Simon Boccanegra, Jago (Otello) and Falstaff, the title role in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Alberich (Das Rheingold) and Telramund (Lohengrin), Scarpia (Puccini: Tosca), Jochanaan (Strauss: Salome), Captain Balstrod (Britten: Peter Grimes), the title role in Berg’s Wozzeck, and Sancho (Massenet: Don Quichotte). He was principal artist at the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken and has guest appeared at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, Danish National Opera in Aarhus, State Opera Hannover, State Theatre Darmstadt or Reykjavik Arts Festival and Wexford Opera festival. His many concert appearances included Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder
