Jiří Brückler

Soloist of the Opera

Jiří Brückler was born in Liberec (1984), northern Bohemia, where he started his career in music as a member of various childrens choirs. He then studied classical singing with Prof. Jiří Kotouč at the Prague Conservatory, and since 2008 has pursued his training at the Academy of Music in Prague, under the guidance of Prof. Roman Janál. Since his conservatory years, he has guest appeared at the Prague State Opera, singing in its productions of Dvořáks Rusalka, Puccinis Turandot, and since the 2010/2011 season also in Verdis Rigoletto and Bizets Carmen. Since 2007, he has been on the cast of the Mozart Opera Pragues summer season at the Estates Theatre, singing Masetto in Mozarts Don Giovanni. In 2008 he took part in the Prague Chamber Opera companys Japanese tour, singing Count Almaviva in Mozarts Le nozze di Figaro. Since the 2009/2010 season, he has guest appeared at the F.X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec, as Silvio in Leoncavallos I pagliacci.. His creation of Silvio earned him a place on the longlist for the 2009 Thalia Award. He has successfully competed in several voice contests. His achievements there include victory in the national music school voice competition at Šternberk; first prize from the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary; the Vilém Zítek Prize and the Josef Hercl Society Award for best sacred music interpretation, the Prize of the National Theatre of Moravia and Silesia in Ostrava, and the Editio Bärenreiter Award. At the Brno National Theatre he is performing the role of Count Almaviva in Mozarts Le nozze di Figaro, Ping in Puccini sTurandot and Don Pedro in operetta La Périchole by J. Offenbach. In summer 2011 and 2012 he appeared on the International Music Festival Cesky Krumlov in the opera Pagliacci (R. Leoncavallo) on a revolving theatre alongside José Cura (Canio), singing the role of Silvio. From season 2011/2012 Jiří is the soloist of the State Opera and the National Theatre in Prague. He sings there the role of Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Ping (Turandot), Henry Cuffe in the opera Gloriana (B. Britten) and Silvio in Pagliacci (R. Leoncavallo) etc. In January 2013 he was on Japanese tour with the Prague National Theatre, singing the role of Count Almaviva. Currently he preparing part of Lovec (Hunter) and Hajný (Gamekeeper) in Dvořáks Rusalka for Tour with Budapest Festival Orchestra (conductor Iván Fischer) and also for the International Music Festival Český Krumlov.
