Ballet

On Monday 29 August, the 134th National Theatre season was launched. The employees, artistic and non-artistic staff, sitting, unaccustomedly, in the auditorium, were addressed by the General Director of the National Theatre, Prof. Jan Burian, and the Minister of Culture, Mr. Daniel Herman. Of particular interest for ballet fans is the fact that during the gala ceremony two major accolades were handed over. Vlastimil Harapes, a famed artist referred to as a symbol of Czech ballet, was inducted into the National Theatre’s Hall of Fame. The other trophy went to Ondřej Vinklát, a Czech National Ballet principal dancer, who received the award in recognition of both his talent and professional results, which – in the category of artists up to the age of 35 – are remarkable indeed.
