New at the Czech National Ballet

1/9/2016

Ballet

The Czech National Ballet has entered the current season with 83 members. The company has been subject to several significant changes.

Giovanni Rotolo has been named principal dancer, Monika Hejduková has been promoted to soloist, and Alexandra Pera, Marina Zhukovskaya and Patrik Holeček have all been named demi-soloist.

When it comes to newcomers, our ballet family has been extended by a few foreign members, as well as one Czech. We have welcomed among us Anna Novotná, a graduate of the Prague Dance Conservatory. Two dancers formerly engaged at the Slovak National Ballet have joined us: the US’s Abigail Bushnell, who has also gained experience at the Semperoper Dresden and the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago; and Samuel Price from the UK. Another notable reinforcement is Olga Bogoliubskaia, a Russian dancer, previously a member of the Ballet Academy within the Bolshoi and the Moscow Art Theatre. The good-sized, ebullient and kind Italian community of dancers in our company has been expanded by the 19-year-old Danilo Lo Monaco, a Palermo native and a graduate of the La Scala Ballet School in Milan. And Simon Jones, of Australian origin, has come to join us from Bayerisches Staatsballett II.
