Biography

Born in Malta, in 2005 Štěpán Pechargraduated from the Sir M. A. Refalo Centre for Further Studies and moved to Prague, where he launched his dance career. In 2010, he completed his studies at the Prague Dance Conservatory. From 2010 to 2012, he was a member of Bohemia Ballet. In 2011 and 2012, he also collaborated with the Prague Chamber Ballet, and between 2011 and 2015 with 420PEOPLE. From 2011 to 2015, he was a member of the Laterna magika company, where he is now a guest dancer. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Czech National Ballet, portraying numerous roles in choreographies by J. Kylián, V. Kuneš, V. Konvalinka, P. Zuska, J. P. Aviotte, P. Šmok, J. Kodet, J. Bubeníček, A. V. Bruke, O. Naharin, and others. He has created a number of choreographies in tandem with Ondřej Vinklát, including Red Gadget, On Time, Frail Throw, Inspiration, which have been performed at the National Theatre in Prague to great acclaim. Štěpán Pechar,Ondřej Vinklát and Marek Svobodník created a choreography on the occasion of the opening of the 2013/14 National Theatre season, called 131ND 56LM 31NS. In 2014, also in collaboration with Vinklát and Svobodník, he created the feature-length performance Pictures for the chamber stage of the Kolowrat Palace. Since 2015, the three have led, in co-operation with the choreographer Viktor Konvalinka and the photographer Pavel Hejný, the DEKKADANCERS company. Štěpán continues to develop his interest in choreography. 

Co-creator of Cube, 2017 premiere of Laterna magika and of the 2018 premiere The Garden.
