Sophie Benoit was born in France. She began studying ballet when she was six and she has been taught by Paris and Bolshoi Opera Ballet Teachers such as Claudette Scouarnec, Wilfride Piollet, Gilbert Mayer or Anatoli Kovalenko. She studied at Paris’s Dance Conservatory then she joined the Royal Ballet School in London where she graduated in 2003. Sophie started dancing with the European Ballet (UK) where she danced soloist roles such as Daphnis and Chloe Pas-de-Deux, Gamzatti, Paquita and Carmen variations and the Lilac Fairy in the Sleeping Beauty. Sophie also danced with the Royal Ballet in Nutcracker (London and Birmingham) and with the English National Ballet in Romeo and Juliet. Sophie won the Gold Medal at the Rome International Ballet Competition in 2006.
In 2005, she joined the National Theatre Ballet where she performed in Swan Lake, Onegin, Nutcracker, Giselle, Ballet Mania, Mozart? Mozart!, the Taming of the Shrew, and Raymonda.
In 2006, Heinz Spoerli offered her to join the Zurich Ballet as soloist where she danced: Terpsichore in Apollo and the principal role in Balanchine Concerto Barocco, Allem nah, allem fern (Mahler), Cello Suites, In den Winden im Nichts (Bach), Queen of the Dryades and Mercedes solo in the 3rd act of Don Quichotte, The four Small Swans, The two Big Swans, The Pas de Cinq in Swan Lake, Sugar Plum Fairy in Nutcracker and Peer Gynt (Heinz Spoerli). She has also been on tours in Cairo (Egypt), in Athens (Greece) and in Edimbourgh (Scotland).
In 2008, Sophie was first soloist at the Royal Swedish Ballet where she danced: Bassi in Gustav III (Patrice Bart), Snow Queen in Nutcracker, Pas de trois and Napolitan dance in Swan Lake, Swanilda friends in Coppelia, Balanchine Themes and Variations.
In 2010 Sophie was first soloist at Nice Opera Ballet where she danced: Pas de Deux - created for Paris Opera by Gene Kelly – and La Suite en Blanc with Claude Bessy, Marco Polo and Viva Verdi (Luciano Cannito), Don Quichotte and Coppelia (Eric Vu-An), Cantate 51 (Maurice Béjart), Por vos Mueros (Nacho Duato), Allegro Brillante and Chaconne (George Balanchine).
Sophie has been invited as guest to perform principal solos in the Miami International Ballet Festival in September in 2006. She danced in the Venice Summer Festival in July 2008. She performed in Geneva (Switzerland) the Nutcracker Pas-de-Deux to a Christmas Gala in 2010. In January 2011, Sophie attended the Saint Barthelemy Music Festival and she was guest artist at Andre Malreaux Theater - Rueil Malmaison (France) where she danced Raymonda Pas de Deux in May 2012.
