Marie Hybešová

She studied at Prague’s Dance Conservatoire between 1973–1982. After graduating she became a member of the National Theatre Ballet in Prague and in 1985 was appointed a soloist. Her exquisite dancing style, technical confidence, elegant limb movements and, above all, natural lyrical utterance predestined her for grand roles of both the classical and modern repertoire. To name just a few: Agnes in Jennifer, the Nymph in Faun’s Afternoon, Dornička in Bouquet, Beatrice in Labyrinth, Valentina in the ballet Angara, Princess Aurora and Princess Florina in Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Tsarina in Fire-Bird, Micaela in Carmen, the Indian dancer in The Nutcracker and the title role in the original ballet production by the stage director Jozef Bednárik and the choreographer Libor Vaculík Isadora Duncan – Story of the Famous Dancer. She has performed in ballets of world-famous choreographers, for example, in Jiří Kylián’s Return to an Unknown Land and Three Pieces, Alvin Ailey’s The River and José Limón’s The Moor’s Pavan (nomination for the Thalia Prize). She perhaps most enraptured the audience in the title role of A. C. Adam’s romantic ballet Giselle. Marie Hybešová has participated in a number of international and national competitions: Brno 1979 (an honourable mention in category B), Košice 1981 (1st prize in category B, prize of the jury for the most impressive performance in the role of Giselle), Brno 1984 (1st place in category A), Moscow 1983 (3rd place and the prize of the jury),Varna 1984 (special prize of the jury for the most impressive performance in pas de deux from the ballet Sleeping Beauty), New York 1987 (diploma, Gala). She has appeared as a guest in Germany, Yugoslavia and the Netherlands. She is the holder of the Czech Literary Fund Award for the role of the Woman in the ballet CarminaBurana. In 2003 she became a ballet master of Prague’s National Theatre and in the same year received an offer to teach at the Dance Conservatoire of the Capital City of Prague.
