Věra Kavanová-Poláchová

Biography

Graduated from the conservatoire in Pardubice, under the tutorship of professor Svatava Šubrtová. In 1998 she won 1st prize in the younger category in the conservatoire’s singing competition. She also won the same award at the A. Dvořák International singing competition in Karlovy Vary in 1991. In 1992 she attained 3rd prize in the M. Schneider-Trnavský competition in Trnava and the Český Rozhlas prize for best interpretation of a song repertoire of a contemporary composer. In 1991 she made her debut in the role of Pamina (The Magic Flute) in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. Since 1992 she has been employed at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. Amongst the roles she has performed to date are: Vendulka (The Kiss), Mařenka (The Bartered Bride), Blaženka (The Secret), Despina (Così fan Tutte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Siebel (Faust and Margarita), Micaela (Carmen), Liù (Turandot), Tatiana (Eugen Onegin). In the National Theatre she had performed the role of Katuška (The Devil’s Wall) and Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro).
