Biography

After graduating from the grammar school in his native town of Ústí nad Labem, Tomáš Měcháček studied alternative and puppet theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
In 1999, he established MATAPA – Spontaneous Mind for Theatre Research, since 2001 he has been a member of the N. I. E. international drama company. Since 2008, he has travelled with the comedy show A History of the Czechs in 68 Minutes and the performance for children Sešli se tři a stalo se (Three Met …).
He has appeared in a TV production of the fairy tale The Golden Princess (2001) and in the TV dramas Vagabonds (2001) and Such a Decent Man (2001). Cinema-goers have seen him in the role of a ski instructor in the US comedy Last Holiday (2006), part of which was shot in the Czech Republic, and in one of the lead roles in Protector (2009). In 2011, he performed in six featurettes, filmed within a waste recycling campaign. He has appeared in several TV series, including in the stand-up comedy Na stojáka (2004), and, together with Martin Dejdar, he presented the entertainment programme Vylomeniny (Pranks, 2013). He has also appeared in advertisements, occasionally directed plays and taught at workshops.
