Števo Capko

Biography

Actor, gagman and clown Števo Capko was born in 1970 in Košice, Slovakia. From 1993 till 1997 he studied at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the Department of Non-Verbal and Comic Theatre under Ctibor Turba and Boris Hybner. During this time he also served an internship in Switzerland in the Scuola teatro Dimitri and in the Centre National des arts du Cirque in France, as well as attended a workshop conducted by the American clown Daniel Gulk. Having graduated from the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in 1997 he appeared in theatres in Cheb, Karlovy Vary, Mladá Boleslav, Jihlava and Ostrava. In 2002 he performed in the staging of Circus Terra in the State Opera Prague (stage director Jiří Nekvasil). Subsequently he established the association Circus Sacra and created the staging of Faustroll according to the book by Alfred Jarry and also the street performance of Draceana. In season 2003/2004 he cooperated with the Forman Brothers Theatre and the National Theatre on a performance of the opera by Philip Glass La Belle et la Bête. He collaborated with director Jiří Nekvasil on Janáček’s operas The Excursions of Mr. Brouček (National Theatre 2003) and Jenůfa (co-production Dublin 2004, Riga and Prague 2005), staged Verdi’s Requiem (NT 2004), Smetana’s The Bartered Bride (NT 2004), Martinů’s The Greek Passion, Mozart’s Don Giovanni (NT 2006), Puccini’s La fanciulla del West (NT 2007). Capko also teaches at the Chair of Non-Verbal and Comic Theatre at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.Update: 2007
