Sarah Castle

Biography

Sarah Castle was born in New Zealand and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her debut for the Royal Opera was as Tisbe (Rossini: La Cenerentola), where she is also appearing in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in the new production by Keith Warner, conducted by Antonio Pappano, singing Siegrune Die Walküre and Flosshilde Götterdämmerung. Her roles include Oberto in Händel’s Alcina (San Francisco Opera and Stuttgart Opera), Nerone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (New Israeli Opera with Harry Bicket), title role of Bizet's Carmen (Zürich), Olga (Tchaikowsky: Eugene Onegin) in La Monnaie Brussels, Teseo in Arianna in Creta (Nationale Reisoper), Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (New Zealand Opera), title role of Händel’s Teseo (Klagenfurt Opera). For the Bayreuth Festival she sang Flosshilde and Grimgerde in Wagner’s Die Walküre and for the Spoleto Festival in the USA she appeared as Andronico in Händel’s Tamerlano (with Harry Bicket) and Komponist in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. Concerts include Mendelssohn’s Paulus with La Chapelle Royale under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe, BBC Proms appearances with Elektra and Die Walküre. She has also made debuts at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with Dutch Radio Philharmonic singing Debussy’s La Damoiselle elue, and at the Edinburgh International Festival singing Kurt Weill songs with the San Francisco Ballet. She sang Prince Orlovsky (J. Strauss: Die Fledermaus) for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Hänsel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel) for Opera Australia, Annio (Mozart: La clemenza di Tito) in Prague National Theatre.Update: May 2007
