Pavel Vančura

Guest of the Opera

Pavel Vančura  took private voice lessons with Prof. Jevdokimovová in Havlíčkův Brod and subsequently studied with Prof. Tuček in Prague. In 1995 he was engaged by the opera company of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. Since then, he has portrayed approximately 70 roles of both the Czech and international repertoire, in the Czech Republic and abroad alike. As regards Czech roles, they include the Count in Dvořák’s The Jacobin, Bonifác in Smetana’s The Secret, Kecal in The Bartered Bride, the Water Sprite in Rusalka, the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Marbuel in Dvořák’s The Devil and Kate, etc. When it comes to the global operatic repertoire, he has sung Zaccaria in Nabucco, Escamillo in Carmen, Mephistopheles in Faust, Pimen in Boris Godunov, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, and other roles. He has regularly performed on concert and opera stages in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. For a number of years, he has closely collaborated with one of the best Czech contemporary sacred music composers, the organist and conductor Miloš Bok, with whom he has made recordings. Pavel Vančura also appeared in the Prague production of the famous musical Cats, and is the holder of the 2009 Thalia Award. Of late, he has performed frequently on the opera stage in Plzeň.
