Pavel Švingr

Soloist of the Opera

Pavel Švinger graduated from the Academy of Music in Prague under the guidance of Ivan Kusnjer. Still as a student at the Academy and within his opera studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, he created Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn. He has garnered numerous accolades at Czech and international competitions including the  first prize at the Bohuslav Martinů Song Competition in Prague, second prize in the Junior category at the 2009 International Antonín Dvořák Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary, and victory at the 2011 Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg international competition in Berlin for his portrayal of the Water Sprite in Dvořák’s Rusalka. In 2009 he guest appeared at the State Opera Prague as the Waiter and the Boatman in Yoishi Oida’s famed production of Britten’s Death in Venice. In 2010 he debuted at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, with the role of Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, in January 2012 he made a successful debut at the National Theatre in Prague, performing in the world premiere of Marko Ivanović’s opera Enchantia, and first appeared at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (the Hermit in Weber’s Der Freischütz). Subsequently, he collaborated with the South Bohemia Theatre, performing at the Český Krumlov Opera Festival (Verdi: Rigoletto), and the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň (Smetana: The Secret). In 2013 he debuted at the Zomeropera Alden Biesen festival in Belgium (Verdi: Rigoletto). From 2013 to 2015, he was engaged at the North Bohemia Theatre in Ústí nad Labem, since the 2014/15 season he has been a soloist of Prague’s National Theatre Opera. Pavel Švingr has also regularly appeared at concerts, with his core repertoire including Dvořák’s Biblical Songs and Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem and Jan Hanuš’s unique song cycle Wooden Christ
