Ondřej David

Biography

Ondřej David was born in 1973. After graduating at grammar school he started to study alternative acting at the Academy of Music Arts in Prague, but he changed for Philosphical faculty, specialization philosophy-interpretation and translation English (1993-96). In 1996 he has returned to the Academy, this time to study alternative directing and dramaturgy, which he graduated in 2001. During his studies and later on he has participated on several art workshops of reputable theatre artists or theatre companies. In 1996 he participated on a workshop led by American performer Rinde Eckert, two years later on a workshop led by Russian company of Derevo. In 2000 he participated on a workshop of Dutch theatre company of Dogtroep and in 2002 he worked on a project by the name of Desert Rain by Blast Theory company focused on performing art with interactive technologies. Ondřej David has directed the following projects: Žena, která zabila Boha / A woman that has killed God for the NoD Universal venue (2002), Lovci jmen / Name hunters for the Ponec Theatre Prague (2004). He has directed two operas at the State Opera of Prague - Jelizaweta Bam and Rytíř a Smrt / Knight and Death within the project of Bušení do železné opony / Pounding on the Iron Curtain (2001) and the opera of Sasíci v Čechách / Saxons in Bohemia (2004) within the same project, but at the National Theatre of Prague already. He has made the project of Cesta třetí noci pávů / Peacock´s Third Night Trip (1999) together with the Continuo theatre at the Kratochvíle castle. Of other actions by Ondřej David long-term author project of physical poetry Akční lyrika / Action Lyrics should be mentioned, that lasts since 1997 and has been presented at the Alfréd ve Dvoře theatre for the last time. He has worked as an assistant director for the King Lear performance in the State theatre of Jaroslavl in Russia (2000). As an actor he participated on Skrytá tvůrčí jednotka / Hidden Creative Unit projects of Divnosti (1997), Život Fanta Zije / Life of Fan Tasy (1999) and Zabiju tě, Vorgo / I Will Kill You, Vorga (2000), with the Continuo company he has performed within Kratochvílení ´98 and at the Řeznická theatre in the play of Rough for Theatre II (1994) by Samuel Beckett. He has worked as a theatre dramaturg of the Roxy Experimental venue of Linhart´s foundation from 2000 till 2002 and since 2002 he is an artistic director of the NoD Universal venue. Update: 2005
