Biography

Michael Scott was born in the USA. He went to Germany on a language course at the University of Kassel and he ended up staying there. Initially, he was a trainee with and then an assistant to Walter Perdacher. He studied stage design at the Academy of the Arts in Munich in Rudolf Heinrich’s year and he then became an assistant to Jürgen Rose at the State Opera in Munich, the Hamburg State Opera and the London Royal Opera. Not long afterwards, he began working closely with Giancarlo del Monaco. They created twenty-five productions together, including Werther in Stuttgart, Simon Boccanegra in Berlin and Bajazzo in Hamburg. In 1991, he was the designer of the stage scenery for La fanciulla del west (The Girl of the Golden West) for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. It can be said that Michael Scott is more or less the “core stage designer” for Youri Vàmos. He has designed the skenery and the costumes for Lucidor, the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Spartacus, the Othello Case, Cinderella, Le sacre du printemps and West Side Story.
