Martina Janková studied in Ostrava (Czech Republic), at the Musik-Akademie in Basel, Switzerland, and at the Internationales Opernstudio of the Zurich Opera. Since 1998 she has been a member of the Zurich Opera. Her roles to date have included Mozart’s Celia (Lucio Silla), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Angelica (Händel: Orlando), Gretel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel), Nannetta (Verdi: Falstaff), Wanda (Offenbach: La Grande-Duchesse de Géroldstein), Marzelline (Beethoven: Fidelio), Tilly (J. Strauss: Simplicius), Lucietta (Wolf-Ferrari: I quattro rusteghi), Bystrouška the Vixen (Janáček: The Cunning Little Vixen). These performances were conducted by John Eliot Gardiner, Franz Welser-Möst, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Nello Santi, Vladimir Fedoseyev, William Christie, Philippe Jordan. Within the ongoing Zurich Da Ponte cycle conducted by F. Welser-Möst she has sung Mozart’s Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro).
She sang Beethoven's Marzelline in Paris with Marc Minkowski, Celia (Lucio Silla) with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Wiener Festwochen, Bystrouška and Drusilla (Monteverdi: L’incoronazione di Poppea) in Geneva, as well as Karolka (Janáček: Jenufa) with Simon Rattle. Martina Janková has been a regular guest of the Salzburger Festspiele for many years. The highlight so far was her Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) in 2007 with Daniel Harding. Future engagements include: Susanna and Despina, Bach's Christmas Oratorio with Riccardo Chailly in Zurich, Cherubino in Salzburg 2009, Susanna with F. Welser-Möst in Cleveland, a recital at the Prague Spring Festival and in Geneva, etc.
On the concert stage Martina Janková has worked with many of the finest international orchestras, including the Berlin, Munich and Czech Philharmonic, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Concentus Musicus Wien, and Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, and conductors of such renown as Phillipe Jordan, Franz Welser-Möst, Neville Marriner, Hugh Wolff, John Eliot Gardiner, Ivor Bolton, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Simon Rattle, Ivan Fischer, Bertrand de Billy and Marek Janowski.
Her recordings and DVDs include Bach’s cantata BWV 172 Erschallet ihr Lieder (Deutsche Grammophon), Strauss’s Simplicius (EMI), Lied recital An den Mond with Lieder by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert (Philips), Voyage – Lieder by Strauss, Dvořák, Schoeck, Mussorgsky (Philips), and on DVD the artist can be seen as Zerlina in Don Giovanni (EMI), in Händel’s Orlando (Arthaus), Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and Strauss’s Simplicius (Arthaus).
