Biography

Marc Minkowski was appointed General Manager of the Opéra National de Bordeaux in 2016. In 2011, he founded the Ré Majeure Festival on Île de Ré (French Atlantic coast). He was the Artistic Director of the Mozartwoche Salzburg from 2013 to 2017. After studying the bassoon, he began conducting at an early age. In 1982, he founded Les Musiciens du Louvre, an ensemble that was to play an active role in the revival of Baroque music, exploring French Baroque music, Handel, Bach and Monteverdi, before expanding their repertoire to include Mozart, Gluck, Rossini, Offenbach, Bizet, and Wagner. Marc Minkowski regularly conducts in many of the world's most highly-regarded opera houses and concert halls : in Paris Opéra National, Théâtre du Châtelet and Opéra Comique, at the Salzburg Festival, in Brussels, Zurich, Venice, Moscow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna (Theater an der Wien and the Vienna State Opera) and at Aix-en-Provence Festival. He made his debut at Covent Garden and at the Teatro alla Scala in 2015. The same year, he started a Mozart / Da Ponte trilogy at the Drottningholm Festival in Sweden, in collaboration with the Opéra Royal of the Château de Versailles. His 2017/2018 operatic season as a conductor includes: Offenbach’s La Vie parisienne and Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Rabaud’s Mârouf, both in Bordeaux and at the Opera Comique in Paris, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Covent Garden. Marc Minkowski is also in high demand on the concert platform in the core 19th and 20th century symphonic repertoire, conducting orchestras such as: BBC Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Kanazawa Orchestra, DSO Berlin, Staatskapelle Dresden, Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Swedish and Finnish Radio Orchestras, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
