Lucie Silkenová

Guest of the Opera

Lucie Silkenová was born in Prague. She was a member of the Kühn Children’s Choir and then studied opera singing and piano obbligato at Prague’s Jan Neruda Gymnasium, focused on musical education. Then she studied with Ivan Kusnjer, opera soloist of the National Theatre in Prague and pedagogue, at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts. She has also honed her vocal technique at master classes in England, Spain, Germany and Austria. She has received accolades at several international voice competitions, the most important of which are: first prize at the Concours International d’Encouragement Musical international competition, Lyon 2008, organised by the Rotary Club; and second prize at the 44th Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition, Karlovy Vary 2009. She has already enacted numerous opera roles. First, minor roles such as Barberina (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), the Turnspit (Dvořák: Rusalka), the First Boy, First Lady, Papagena (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), etc., and then such major roles as Corilla (Donizetti: Viva la Mamma), Lisa (Lehár: The Land of Smiles), Cleopatra (Handel: Julius Caesar), Rosina (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia), Pamina (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte). She has performed at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec, the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and co-operated with the Prague Chamber Opera (concert tours in Japan, Germany and Switzerland). She has made several records for Navora Records and ArcoDiva. In the 2009/10 season made her debut at the National Theatre Prague, where she has performed as Esmeralda (Smetana: The Bartered Bride), Zerlina (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Barbarina (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), Frasquita (Bizet: Carmen), First Wood Sprite (Dvořák: Rusalka), Pamina (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) and Penelope (Ivanović: Enchantia).
