Biography

Lenka Máčiková drew the attention of foreign theatre directors while still a student. In 2002 she received 3rd prize at the Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský International Voice Competition, obtained a scholarship for master classes in the Netherlands and a concert performance at the Todi Music Fest in Italy. In 2003 she won the competition of Slovak conservatoires and also completed her studies at the Bratislava Conservatoire, being named graduate of the year. In 2004 she received 1st prize at the Antonín Dvořák Voice Competition in Karlovy Vary, the individual prize of the Miro gallery and the A. Kucharský Award. In 2005 she successfully appeared opposite Peter Dvorský at the Gala Concert at State Opera Prague and gave her own recital at a concert in Amiens, France. In February 2007 she performed in a solo recital in Sarajevo. In the 2006-07 season she appeared as Zerlina at Teatro Grande di Brescia, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Fraschini Pavia, Teatro A. Ponchielli Cremona in Italy and Opera de Massy in France. She earned great acclaim for her portrayal of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte under the baton of Caspar Richter. In the summer of 2007 she was a finalist in the prestigious voice competition in Treviso, Italy. In the 2008-09 season she performed as Amore in Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. In 2009 she made her debut at Warsaw’s Teatr Wielki as Amore in Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice. Subsequently, she was invited to portray at this theatre Xenia in Mussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov, conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson and directed by Mariusz Trelinski. In December 2009 she performed at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava the role of Pamina in a new production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (prepared and conducted by Friedrich Haider). In the 2007-08 season she  debuted as Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the National Theatre in Prague, where she has also sung Mozart’s Despina in Così fan tutte, Squire and Flower maiden in Wagner’s Parsifal and Penelope in Marko Ivanović´s Enchantia.
