Since 1983 she has devoted herself to performing Renaissance and Baroque music. She first studied in Bologne and Milan at the Scuola Civica with Cristina Miatello, and later attended a master class with Anatoly Goussev.
Between 1986 and 1991, while she was at the Sommer Akademie für Alte Musik in Innsbruck, she also attended courses in Baroque vocals taught by Jessicah Cash. She continued her instruction with Jessicah Cash in her private studio in London. At the same academy, she also visited classes in vocal styling with Nigel North.
Between 1990 and 1994 she took part in perfomers‘ seminars with Roberto Gini at the Scuola Civica di Musica in Milan, which helped her to perfect the aesthetic and vocal quality of her repertoire which ranges from Monteverdi through cantatas of the 18th century. She graduated from this school in 1994. In 1992 she attained the rank of finalist in the As.Li.Co competition for young opera singers with her perfect execution of Monteverdi’s work. She collaborates with various ensembles that are specialized in Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque repertoires. Some of these include: Mala Punica, led by Pedro Memelsdorf; Ensemble Concerto with Roberto Gini; Conserto Vago with Massim Lonardi; Ensemble Aurora with Enrico Gatti; Le Parlément de Musique with M. Gester; CIMA with Riccardo Martinini; Ensemble 415 with Chiara Banchini, and A sei voci with Bernard Fabre–Garrus. Under Roberto Gini’s direction, she participated in a performance of Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, which the Raffaello Sanzio Society produced for the Kunsten Festival des Arts in Brussels. After this debut, they performed the work in various theatres in Europe. She participated in another of this Society’s works in September 2004 on Episode M.#10 of the Endogonidia Tragedy in Marseille.
Lavinia Bertotti has appeared at numerous Italian and international festivals of historical music, and has many recordings under her belt. She holds classes in Pavia and Rome. In 2002 she was invited to the conservatory in Tilburg, Holland to organize master classes in vocal music with a focus on the first decades of the 17th century in Italy. Since 2003 she has been teaching Renaissance and Baroque singing at the International Early Music Course in Urbino.Update: April 2007
