Josef Škarka

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Josef Škarka was born in 1981 in Brno. At the present time he is studying singing at the Academy of Performing Arts in the class of René Tuček. In addition to concert activity, especially with young orchestras (Orchestr Berg, Roxy Ensemble, Ars Brunensis, Collegium Marianum, Collegium 1704), he performes the lead role of Figaro in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Theatre in Pilsen and the role of Bello in Giacomo Pucinni’s opera La fanciulla del West in the National Theatre Prague. Recent successes include second place and a special prize for his rendition of Dvořák’s Biblical Songs at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary. He performs regularly well-received recitals, often accompanied by the pianist Richard Pohl. One of their first success includes presentation during International Music Festival Moravian Autumn 2004 (songs by Dvořák and Janáček) or concert performance at the Festival of Czech Music under the auspices of Sir Charles Mackerras.
