Guest of the Opera
Yevhen Shokalo was born in Lvov, he studied at the Music Academy in Kiev. In 1984 – while still a student – he won the Competition of Young Singers of Ukraine. Since his debut at the National Opera in Kiev, he has performed as a guest at several opera houses in Russia. In 1993 he was named a soloist of the Opera of the South Bohemia Theatre in České Budějovice. Since 1995 he has also collaborated with the State Opera in Prague and the Janáček Opera in Brno, since 1998 he has been engaged as a soloist at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. He has also appeared on stages in France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, North Korea, Canada, Austria, Poland, Croatia and Japan. In the season 1999/2000, Yevhen Shokalo made his debut in the National Theatre Opera as Boris Timofeyevich Izmailov in Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District and Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni.
