Jane Bourne

Choreologist

Biography

Born in Lincoln, England, Jane Bourne trained at the Institute of Choreology in London. She worked with Leonide Massine, notating his Le Tricorne for the London Festival Ballet. In 1974, she joined the Stuttgart Ballet as a choreologist to assist in the completion of the notation scores of John Cranko’s choreographies. While in Stuttgart, she also notated new productions, working with Kenneth MacMillan, John Neumeier, Glen Tetley, William Forsythe and Uwe Scholz. Bourne has staged Cranko’s ballets (The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, The Lady and the Fool, Jeu de cartes, Brouillards) for companies all over the world, including the American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Australian Ballet, Royal Ballet in London, Tokyo Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, and the Czech National Ballet in Prague.
