Jana Vlachová

Biography

She studied the violin under the guidance of her father Josef Vlach, primarius of the Vlach Quartet, and subsequently under the tutelage of Prof. Marie Hlouňová at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She has performed as a solo violinist both at home and abroad (Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Hungary), in a duo with the cellist Mikael Ericsson, as a violinist with the Vlach Quartet and the Czech Chamber Orchestra. At the present time, she is artistic director and concert master of the Czech Chamber Orchestra. She has collaborated on a regular basis with the ensembles Prague Madrigalists, Sonatori, Verner Collegium, and with pianists of such renown as Josef Hála, Ivan Klánský, František Malý and Kjell-Ove Dahlman. She and the cellist Mikael Ericsson have given hundreds of concerts (at, for example, Prague’s Rudolfinum, Stockholm’s Academy) and performed in concert halls in the Czech Republic, Sweden and other countries. In addition to the classical repertoire for violin and cello, they have interpreted, for instance, Josef Rejcha’s double concerto, which they have also recorded on a CD with the Czech Chamber Orchestra (Panton), and Johannes Brahms’s double concerto, which they performed with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in a direct radio transmission. They have also made a radio recording of Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto grosso No. 2, Antonín Varnický’s double concerto (with the Czech Chamber Orchestra) and František Koníček’s double concerto (written directly for them), which was transmitted live on Czech Television and which they also performed, for example, at Prague’s Rudolfinum and in Dresden. Other composers who have dedicated their compositions to the duo are Viktor Kalabis, Ondřej Kukal and Zdeněk Lukáš. They have also premiered Alois Piňos’s composition for violin and cello. Jana Vlachová has repeatedly led summer interpretation courses in Sweden and recently has also given master classes in the USA, Japan, Germany, Sweden and Slovakia. Update: March 2009
