German pianist Jan Philip Schulze studied piano at the Munich Hochschule für Musik and Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and has been awarded prestigious scholarships and prizes at international piano competitions. He has studied the interpretation of German lied with Helmut Deutsch and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and currently enjoys an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, vocal accompanist and teacher. He is presently on the faculty of Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hanover and has conducted master classes in South Korea, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands and Ukraine.
Awards at international competitions in Italy, Spain, and South Africa marked the beginning of his career, which led him in the meantime in nearly all European countries as well as to Japan.
Among the best know singers, Jan Philip Schulze works with, are Dietrich Henschel, Juliane Banse, Jonas Kaufmann, Rachel Harnisch. He regularly works with Violeta Urmana, with whom he performed in Bruxelles, at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, in Graz, Strasbourg, Paris, at the London Wignore Hall, in Barcelona, Granada, Bilbao, Valencia, Madrid, Vigo, Antwerp, Frankfurt, Vienna, Amsterdam, Toulouse, and Dresden, as well as at the Festivals of Munich, Salzburg and Edinburgh.
As a chamber musician and soloist Jan Philip Schulze is especially attracted by contemporary music. He is the pianist of the Ensemble TriLog Munich and performed many world creations between Odessa, Zagreb, Berlin and Madrid. Upon recommendation of Hans Werner Henze Jan Philip Schulze performed the entire piano oeuvre of the composer and presented it in concerts in Madrid, Genova, Rome, at the Teatro alla Scala, at the Alte Oper Frankfurt and in Hamburg. He gave his debut with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and performed regularly throughout Europe and Asia with his chamber ensemble TrioLog, recipient of the “Münchener Kulturpreis”.
