Biography

Ján Ďurčo was born in Trenčín in 1963. He started his study of singing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. In 1985 he studied in Centro di perfezionamento artisti lirici, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and graduated at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in 1986. In the same year he made his debut at the Slovak National Theatre Opera as Eugen Onegin. He is a winner of the singing competition of M. Sch. Trnavský (1983), prizewinner as well as the winner of the international singing competition of Antonín Dvořák in Karlovy Vary (1984) and winner of the international singing competition Mozart`s Prague in 1988. Since 1986 he is a soloist of the Slovak National Theatre Opera. He has also performed abroad, f.e. festival in Edinburgh, in Jerusalem, Mozartfestival Madrid, Maifestspiele Wiesbaden, in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Japan. His repertoire includes bariton roles in Le nozze di Figaro, The Magic Flute, La Cenerentola, Pique Dame, Eugen Onegin, La traviata, Un ballo in maschera, Il trovatore, La bohème, I pagliacci, etc.
