Ivanna Illyenko was born in Kyiv. She studied at the RussianBalletAcademy in Moscow. Between 1993 and 1996 she was a member of the National Opera in Kyiv where, among other roles, she danced Shirin in Legend of Love, Effy in La Sylphide, Oxana in Christmas Eve, the lead role in the ballet Vladimir the Baptist, Pas de deux in Act 3 of Sleeping Beauty, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella in Prokofiev’s ballet of the same name. From 1996 to 1999 she was the first soloist at the Municipal Theatre in Ústí nad Labem, where she portrayed a host of both classical and modern roles. She appeared as Clara in The Nutcracker, Death in Carmen in Ondřej Šoth’s choreography, Giselle and Myrtha in Giselle, the Dying Swan to music of the composer C. Saint-Saëns and in the main roles in the ballets Paquita, Flower Festival in Genzano, Diamond (choreography Randi Patterson), Le Papillon, La Vivandere. In 1999 she took up an engagement at Stuttgarter Ballett, within a year becoming a demi-soloist. There she danced Lisette in Wary in Vain choreographed by F. Ashton, Olympia in Neumeier’s La Dame aux Camélias, the Dryad in Don Quixote, the Blue Bird in Sleeping Beauty (choreography: Marcia Haydé), Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew, Giselle again in Adam’s ballet Giselle, Pas de deux in Le Corsaire, the lead role in the ballet Desir, Olga in Cranko’s celebrated Onegin and the solo role in the 3rd part of the ballet Initials R.B.M.E.
From the 2004–2005 season she was a member of the National Theatre Ballet and in 2006 was appointed a soloist. She dances Odette / Odile in Swan Lake, Tatiana in Onegin and Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew by J. Cranko, Zyulma and the Wedding Couple in C. Hampson’s Giselle, Henrietta in Raymonda, Christmas Fairy in The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol by Y. Vàmos, Miriam in Ibbur, or A Prague Mystery by P. Zuska, the Sylph and Effy in A. Bournonville’s ballet La Sylphide, Evil sister in Cinderella by Jean-Christophe Maillot, Syrene - Fairy of love and Blue bird in The Sleeping Beauty by Javier Torres and solo roles in the choreographies Petite Mort, Last Touch by J. Kylián and Requiem, BREL – VYSOCKY – KRYL / Solo for free by P. Zuska.
In the mixed bill entitled Ballet Mania she dances in M. Fokin’s famous choreography The Dying Swan, Medora in Pas de trois from the ballet Le Corsaire, and in G. Balanchine’s choreography Tchaikovsky, Pas de deux.
She has appeared as a guest at the Slovak National Theatre Ballet in Bratislava, dancing Odette / Odile in Swan Lake and at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Sleeping Beauty (Aurora).
