Biography

Ivan Krejčí studied stage direction at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, from 1999 to 2001 he held the post of Artistic Director of the Municipal Theatre in Karlovy Vary. Since the 2005/06 season, he has headed the Ostrava-based Aréna chamber stage, which in March 2014 received the main Alfréd Radok Award as The Theatre Company of 2013. Since 2009, Ivan Krejčí has been a member of the Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting, since March 2014 he has been its chairman.  His opera debut was in June 2013 with an acclaimed production of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava, where with the same team (the set designer Milan David and costume designer Marta Roszkopfová) in June 2015 he will stage another opera, Umberto Giordano’s Andrea Chénier.
