Gabriele Ribis

Biography

Gabriele Ribis - bass baritone. Born in Cividale del Friuli (Udine, Italy), graduated in Literature and Philosophy. He has degree in clarinet at the Conservatory "Jacopo Tomadini" in Udine. Undertaken privately the study of singing, in 1995 he had his operatic debut, 21 years old, as Malatesta in Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti in Udine. He has ulteriorly continued his musical formation with many courses: with Claudio Desderi's guidance at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, Regina Resnik's at Eurobottega in Treviso, Alberto Zedda's at Rossini Opera Festival Academy in Pesaro and, recently, Raina Kabaivanska's at Accademia Musicale Chiginan in Siena. In 2000 he won the competition "A.Belli" of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto where he sung in La serva padrona by Pergolesi, in Carmen by Bizet and in Susannah's Secret by Wolf-Ferrari. From the professional debut, he was appreciated in various theatres and festival in Italy and in foreign countries: Theatre Verdi of Pisa, Social of Mantova and del Giglio of Lucca (Carmen); Othello Festival Cyprus (Otello); Theatre Verdi of Trieste (The magic Flute, Madama Butterfly, Don Carlos); Theatre Rendano of Cosenza (Così fan tutte); Croatian National Theatre of Rijeka (L'elisir d'amore, Rigoletto); Wiesbadener Maifestspiele, Nissay Theater of Tokyo (Così fan tutte staged by George Strehler); Deutsches Theater of Munich (The Barber of Seville); Theatre Comunale of Ferrara (The death of Klinghoffer); Opera Theater in Rome (Madama Butterfly). Between his next engagements is The death of Klinghoffer at the National Theatre in Prague and The magic Flute (Papageno) at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor.
