David Nykl
Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Studied voice at the Prague Conservatory under Prof. Luděk Löbl and in 2007 attended singing master classes given by Renato Bruson in Siena, Italy. He has participated in several international competitions, his most recent success being an honourable mention at the Antonín Dvořák International Voice Competition in Karlovy Vary (2008). From 2001 to 2006 he was a member of the Prague Chamber Choir, performing with it at, for example, the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy. He also externally collaborated with State Opera Prague, where he appeared within the Prague Spring 2003 festival as Simon (Joplin: Treemonisha). His repertoire includes Mozart’s Publio (La clemenza di Tito) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), which he explored while studying at the Conservatory, and Mozart’s Masetto (Don Giovanni), which he portrayed in a production of the Opera Mozart staggiona at the Estates Theatre in Prague. Since 2008 he has been a soloist of the National Theatre in Brno, where he has extended his repertoire to include the roles of Angelotti (Puccini: Tosca), Dottore Grenville (Verdi: La traviata), the Man in the Window (Martinů: Juliette) and Don Basilio (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia). In the National Theatre in Prague he has sung in Martinů: The Miracles of Mary; Händel: Rinaldo - Araldo, Mago; Stravinskij: Nightingale; Britten: Gloriana - Sir Walter Raleigh and Mozart: Don Giovanni - Masetto.
