Biography

The tenor Daniel Magdal studied voice at the George Enescu Academy of Arts in his native town of Iași, Romania. In 1991 he was engaged at the Romanian National Opera in Iași, where he performed Don José (Carmen), Riccardo (Un ballo en maschera) and other roles. In 1997 he became a soloist at the Theater Magdeburg and went on to appear on stages in Saarbrücken, Hanover, Lübeck, Braunschweig and The Hague (Cavaradossi in Tosca). In the 2006/07 season he debuted at the Semperoper in Dresden as Rodolfo (La bohéme) and at the festival in Schwerin sang Manrico (Il trovatore). He subsequently portrayed the roles of Canio (Pagliaci), Cavaradossi, Hoffmann (Les contes d’Hoffmann) and Dick Johnson (La fanciulla del West) at the Landestheater in Innsbruck, performed as Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Hanover, Alvaro (La forza del destino) in Schwerin and Würzburg, Aeneas (Les Troyens), Radames (Aida) and Don José in Darmstadt, Calaf (Turandot), Samson (Samson et Dalila), Cavaradossi, Radames, Otello, Lohengrin and Mefistofele (Boito’s Faust) at the National Opera in Bucharest, Florestan (Fidelio) at the Theater Vorpommern, etc.  In February 2013 he debuted in the role of Aeneas at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2004 he appeared as a guest at the State Opera Prague, performing as Radames and Alfredo (La traviata).
