Daniel Klánský

Biography

Born in Prague, Daniel Klánský hails from a family of musicians. He has performed at concerts in the Czech Republic and beyond (Florence, Milan and other cities). A holder of a number of accolades, he has advanced to the final of the International Antonín Dvořák Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary, and received first prize and the Czech Radio Prize at the International Bohuslav Martinů Song Competition. Since the autumn of 2013, he has been a student of the Academy of Music in Prague (in the class of Magdalena Hájóssyová). The roles he has portrayed at the Prague National Theatre include Mirko Hýl in Jan Kučera’s opera Red Mary, engineer Tomeš in Václav Kašlík’s Krakatit and Donald in Benjamin Britten’s Billy Budd. He has appeared as a guest at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec in the part of Schaunard in Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème.
Daniel Klánský has often performed with his father, the renowned piano virtuoso Ivan Klánský, as well as with the Bennewitz Quartet, the Epoque Quartet, the Pardubice Chamber Philharmonic, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc and the West Bohemia Symphony Orchestra. He has made acclaimed concert tours with his brother, the pianist Lukáš Klánský, and the violinist Jan Mráček. Daniel Klánský has given regular performances in Prague for the Mozart Society at Bertramka, including for the educators from Austria’s Mozarteum and the W. A. Mozart Society of America. He appeared at one of the annual Mozart’s Birthday evening (broadcast by Czech Radio). Furthermore, he has performed at numerous Czech festivals (Smetana’s Litomyšl, the Václav Hudeček Academy in Luhačovice, the Prague Music Festival, the Olomouc Baroque Festival, the Šumperk Monastery Music Festival, etc.).
