Biography

The Slovak baritone, Dalibor Jenis, studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and at the Accademia Italiana in Osimo. In 1991, he became soloist of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, where he has created many roles including Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Eugene Onegin, Marcello (La bohème), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Posa (Don Carlos) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni. He has quickly become one of the most successful and the most sought-after baritones of our time, and now he belongs to the top world singers.He earns ovations in all front opera houses including Vienna State opera (Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Eugene Onegin), Covent Garden in London (Marcello, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Ford in Falstaff), La Scala in Milan (Marquis of Posa in Don Carlos, Valentin in Faust), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Eugene Onegin, Giorgio Germont, Don Giovanni, Rossini’s Figaro, Luna in Il trovatore, Ezio in Attila), Hamburg State Opera (Silvio in I pagliacci, Eugene Onegin, Rossini’s Figaro, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor), Opéra Bastille in Paris (Marcello, Rossini‘s Figaro and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro), Arena di Verona (Rossini’s Figaro), Los Angeles Opera (Eugene Onegin), at the New National Theatre v Tokiu (Rossini‘s Figaro), and at the Australian Opera in Sydney (Eugene Onegin). He has also participated in productions of lesser-known operas such as Ferruccio Busoni’s Doktor Faust (in Lyon and Tokyo) and Ponchielli‘s Marion Delorme (concert performance in Montpellier, France). As Verdi’s Iago, Dalibor Jenis has most recetly earned great success in Hamburg, at the festival Pafos Aphrodite, Cyprus, and in Bratislava – also alongside José Cura in February 2012, and again in 2013/2014 season. In May 2013 in Cagliari, he added to his Verdian roles a new one, Macbeth; in October 2013 he excelled in this role in Bratislava.
