Biography

Tenor and music writer Dalibor Janota studied singing privately with Rudolf Vašek and at the  Ostrava Conservatory. From 1964 he was a member of the Opava Opera chorus, from 1971 to 1979 he was a soloist of the operetta ensemble in Teplice. In 1984 he was engaged by the Prague National Theatre chorus. He worked with the Prague companies Opera Furore (the title role in Josef Berg’s opera Johannes Doctor Faust), and Opera Mozart (Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte). From 1992 to 2012 he was a soloist of the Prague State Opera/Czech National Opera (appearing chiefly in character roles, including Spoletta in Puccini’s Tosca, or Emperor Altoum in Puccini’s Turandot), coupling his artistic career with the post of head of the PSO Archives. He continues to work with the Czech National Opera as a guest artist. He has appeared at several other opera houses, including the Northern Bohemia Theatre in Ústí nad Labem (as the millionaire Osgood in the musical Some Like It Hot, and as Alfred P. Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady).
