Biography

Hungarian soprano Csilla Boross made her Prague National Theatre debut on the stage of the Estates Theatre in the role of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in December 2008. Between the years 2009 and 2011, she guest appeared in Prague as Elektra (Idomeneo), Aida, and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), all at the National Theatre Opera, and as Tosca, Abigail (Nabucco), and Butterfly (Madama Butterfly) at the State Opera Prague. Csilla Boross studied piano and voice at Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. From 2002–2008, she was a soloist of the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, and from 2008 she was engaged as a soloist at the National Theatre Brno. Her gallery of roles includes Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Gioconda, Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Venus (Tannhäuser), Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer), Adriana Lecouvreur, Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda), Turandot, Tosca, Minni (La fanciulla del West), Aida, Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Abigail, Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), and others. Elsewhere in this country, she has also guest appeared at the Moravia and Silesia National Theatre in Ostrava, and at J.K. Theatre in Plzeň. On the wider international circuit, she has sung at various venues in Amsterdam, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Geneva, Trieste, Palermo, Pisa, Verona, Modena, Savonlinna, Helsinki, Pittsburgh, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka, Melbourne and Muscat, among others, and presented her art in her emblematic role of Abigail in Palm Beach, Rome, Geneva, Marseille, at the Washington National Opera and Opera Philadelphia. She won a Thálie Award for 2009 for her creation of Butterfly at the National Theatre Brno, and in 2016 she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, in recognition of her outstanding artistic achievement in Hungary and abroad.
