Guest of the Opera
Tenor Charles Kim’s repertoire includes roles such as Lohengrin, Parsifal, Siegmund, Erik and Arindal. In addition to his Wagner roles, Manrico (Il Trovatore), Radames (Aida), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Calaf (Turandot) take a prominent place in his repertoire. After his studies at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Charles Kim worked at Theater Dortmund with Christine Mielitz from 2003-2011. Some of the numerous operas Kim sang during his tenure in Dortmund include Il Triticco, Les contes d'Hoffmann, Cavalleria Rusticana, Ariadne auf Naxos, Carmen, and Oedipus Rex. His guest engagements have led him to work with Maestro Hubert Soudant of the Tokyo Symphony, Maestro Carlo Montanaro at Teatr Wiekli, Maestro Anton Witt with the Polish National Symphony and Maestro Myung Whun Chung of the Seoul Philharmonic. In addition to opera roles, Charles Kim’s artistic work has also focused on performances of Beethoven: 9th Symphony; Verdi: Requiem; Bruckner: Te Deum; Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde, and Liszt: Faust Symphony.
