Biography

Soprano Božena Ferancová graduated from the Academy of Music in Bratislava where she studied wth Eva Blahová. She completed her studies at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy; with Carlo Bergonzi in Bussetto; and with Jelena Obraztsova and Badri Maisuradze in Moscow. She became a laureate of several international competitions, such as Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský in Trnava – 1st prize, Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competiton in Karlovy Vary – 3rd prize, Mozart’s Prague, Voci Verdiani in Bussetto and others. From 1992 to 1996 she was soloist of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava where she created many role including Ilia (Mozart: Idomeneo), Donna Elvira and Zerlina (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Antonia (Offenbach: Les contes d‘Hoffmann), Nedda (Leoncavallo: I pagliacci), Mimì (Puccini: La bohème), Luisa (Verdi: Luisa Miller), Bystrouška (Janáček: The cunning little vixen) and Cio-Cio-San (Puccini: Madama Butterfly). Since 1996 she has guest appeared on this stage. As Cio-Cio-San she has also guest appeared at the National Theatre Brno and State Theatre Košice. As a devote concert singer she has cooperated with Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Virtuosi di Praga, Prague Symphony Orchestra and others. Since 2005 she has been teaching at the conservatory in Bratislava.
