Guest of the Opera

Biography

Born Dutch soprano Annemarie Kremer has attracted attention for her outstanding musicianship, vocal expressiveness and compelling stage presence in operas of composers like Mozart, Strauss, Puccini and Verdi, and has performed in many important opera houses to critical acclaim. Highlights in recent engagements include a remarkable series of debuts as Ursula (Mathis der Maler, the Semperoper Dresden), Maddalena (Andrea Chénier, Opera North, Leeds) Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier, Beijing Opera), Salome (the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Novaya Opera in Moscow, the Theatro Municipal São Paulo and the Opera Hong Kong), Tosca (Oper Leipzig), Manon Lescaut (Oper Leipzig), Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly, the Nationale Reisopera, The Netherlands), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito, Drottningholm Court Theatre in Stockholm) or Giselda (I Lombardi, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam). Annemarie’s triumphant UK debut in March 2012 as Norma for Opera North, directed by Christopher Alden, was hailed by the British press as ‘simply sensational’. For her portrayal of Norma she received a nomination at the International Opera Oscars in London, as well as a nomination for ‘Sängerin des Jahres’ in the international journal Opernwelt. She subsequently reprised the role in 2014 in her German Norma-debut at the Theater Chemnitz. Another role for which Annemarie has received international recognition, is Cio-Cio San; she made her role debut at the University of Amsterdam in 2007 and has reprised the role in Vermont, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Oldenburg or Essen. Annemarie‘s discography includes several CD recordings and DVD with Händel’s Agrippina (Challenge Records).
