Anke Herrmann

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. The German soprano Anke Herrmann was born in the Ukraine and studied with Günther Leib at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin. She also took part in masterclasses with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer Dieskau. In 1991 she made her debut as Rosina in Mozart’s La finta semplice at the Schauspielhaus Berlin, where she also sang Parascha (Stravinsky: Mavra), Delda (Umlauf: Die Bergknappen), Lauretta (Puccini: Gianni Schicchi) and Belinda (Purcel: Dido and Aeneas). As a specialist of Alte Musik she has sung at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Théâtre de la Place Liège, Théâtre de la Monnaie Bruxelles and appeared at festivals such as Festwochen Der Alten Musik in Innsbruck and the Marcerata Festival. Concert engagements include Palermo as Maddalena in Jommelli’s La passione di Gesu Cristo and in Turin at the Sala Verdi in a recital with the Accademia Montis Regalis. Anke Herrmann has sung many roles of the Baroque repertoire, including the title role in La Calisto, The Priestess (Telemann: Orpheus), Silvia (Haydn: L’isola disabitata), Elisetta (Il matrimonio segreto) and Stellidaura (La Stellidaura vendicante). She has also sung the roles of Pappagena (Die Zauberflöte) and Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel). Among conductors with whom she has worked are Daniel Barenboim and René Jacobs. She appeared returned to the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin as Elisetta, Silvia and Papagena and made her debut with Teatro La Fenice di Venezia singing La passione di Gesu Cristo under Claudio Scimone and for the Orchestre National de Lyon in concert performances of L’isola disabitata. She has also appeared with the Nationale Reisoper as Die Königen der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte) under Ton Koopman and as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) under Alessandro de Marchi. She has toured with the Accademia Montis Regalis singing Giuditta Triumfans in Turin, Milan and Rome to great acclaim. She also recorded this work for Opus 111, for whom she has also recoded L’isola disabitata and Vivaldi Motets. She sang the Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem for the Vest Norges Opera and on tour in China and made her debut with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, singing Belinda in Dido and Aeneas. Recently she has made her acclaimed debuts at the Hamburgische Staatsoper as Erminde in Keiser’s Jodelet and at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw singing Vivaldi Laudate pueri. She has just completed a tour of Mozart concert arias throughout Europe and also to New York and Melbourne as well as performances of Mahler Symphony 4 in France. Among her projects for 2005-06 are Angelica (Orlando) at the Aalto Theater Essen in a new production directed by Tilman Knabe and conducted by Alessandro De Marchi and Servilia La clemenza di Tito in a new production by Ursel and Karl-Ernst Herrmann at the National Theatre, Prague. She will also appear again with the Accademia Montis Regalis in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade in Torino and Paris. Update: 2006
