Alexandrina Pendatchanska

Biography

Alexandrina Pendatchanska was born in Sofia and graduated at the National College of Music in piano and singing. She won the ”Antonín Dvořák” Competition, the 2nd International Singing Competition in Bilbao, as well as the “Unisa Singing Competition” in Pretoria. She made her stage debut as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor in Bilbao, followed by a number of appearances in the U.K., France, Russia, Ireland, the USA, Italy, Spain, Turkey and other countries. In the 1992/3 season she had a great success in Turin as Esclarmonde by Massenet, as Ophelie in Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas in Montecarlo with Thomas Hampson, as the protagonist in Lucia di Lammermoor in Trieste and Turin. In recent seasons she performed in Torvaldo e Dorliska in Vienna, La traviata (Violetta) in Frankfurt, La fille du régiment in Montecarlo, La traviata in Trieste and Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) in Lausanne. She also sang in Dvořák’s Te Deum at the Wexford Festival 1996. In 1997 she was the protagonist of La parisina in Lugano, after this she sang Roberto Devereux (Elisabetta) in Turin, L’elisir d’amore (Adina) at the New Israeli Opera of Tel Aviv, followed by Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortiléges at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) at the Washington Opera and Roberto Devereux (Elisabetta) at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. In 1998/9 season she performed in a concert with the Solisti Veneti in Bregenz, in Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Daniel Oren, then she was heard in Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at the São Carlos Theatre of Lisbon and at the Houston Grand Opera, in Le Comte Ory at the Teatro Regio di Torino. 1999/2000 season brought her to the Rossini Opera Festival in Adina o il Califfo di Bagdad (Adina), Le roi David in Turin and Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste. Alexandrina Pendatchanska has recently portrayed the title role of Ermione and Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito at the Santa Fe Opera, Suor Angelica at the Teatro del Giglio di Lucca, the role of Adalgisa in Norma at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, of Violetta (La traviata) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit and of Lucrezia Contarini in I due Foscari and Luisa Miller at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. She has just returned to New York as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (New York City Opera), made her debut in La straniera (Alaide) at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania.and taken part in a concert with Mozart’s and Rossini’s arias in Moscow, with the Russian National Opera under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov. Prestigious was her recent debut in Opera Seria at Théâtre des Champs Elysées de Paris. Alexandrina Pendatchanska made two recordings for Sony and Decca of Glinka’s A life for the Tzar conducted by Emil Tchakarov and The Bells of Rachmaninov with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit. She also recorded a recital of operatic arias for Capriccio label.
