Biography

Aleš Jenis graduated from the Bratislava Conservatory and immediately after it, in 2001, he guest appeared at the Prague State Opera as Papageno (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) and Morales (Bizet: Carmen). In 2002 he performed Morales also at the Slovak National Theatre Opera in Bratislava and subsequently he became a soloist of this Opera. In 2003 he debuted at the Wexford Festival and then at the Teatro Lirico Cagliari, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Theater St. Gallen, the Teatro Municipal Santiago de Chile, the Opéra d’Avignon, the Volksoper Wien and the Staatsoper Berlin. His further successful performances include Mozart’s Don Giovanni in St. Gallen, Prisoner in Patrice Chéreau’s production of Janáček’s From the House of the Dead, conducted by Pierre Boulez at the Wiener Festwochen, the Holland Festival, Aix-en-Provence and State Opera in Berlin. He performed at this production also at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan and at the Metropolitan Opera, New York under Esa-Pekka Salonen. He also created Conte Gil (Wolf-Ferrari: Il segreto di Susanna) at the Opéra National de Montpellier, the title role in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Glyndebourne Festival and at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Ferdinand (Prokofiev: Betrothal in the Monastery) and Count Almaviva (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro) at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and Sharpless (Puccini: Madama Butterfly) at the New National Theatre Tokyo, in Vienna, Staatsoper Berlin and Santiago de Chile.
