Biography

He gained a BFA at the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1989. He works in opera, theatre and dance. His recent productions include Verdi’s Aida at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Britten’s The Turn of The Screw, Janáček’s Jenůfa and Makropulos Affair and Wagner’s Siegfried at English National Opera, Wagner’s Tannhäuser at San Francisco Opera, Händel’s Imeneo and Monteverdi’s Orfeo for Glimmerglass Opera in New York, Jenůfa at Washington Opera, Schönberg’s Erwartung, Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict for Chicago Opera, Strauss’s Salome for Lithuanian State Opera, The Turn of the Screw at the Kirov Opera’s Mariinsky Theatre, The Flowerbed, The Bull and Giselle for the Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades for Bayerische Staatsoper; Orfeo, One Touch of Venus and the Eight Little Greats season at Opera North, Verdi’s La traviata for the New Israeli Opera, and the premiere of the play Five Gold Rings for the Almeida Theatre, the premiere of the musical Beauty and the Beast for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg on Broadway.
