The set design for the production of the opera about the famous lady-killer draws upon the legendary staging of Don Giovanni premiered at today’s Estates Theatre in 1969. It was the work of two outstanding Czech theatre-makers – the stage director Václav Kašlík and the set designer Josef Svoboda. The set design, which inventively works with the architectural elements of the Estates Theatre’s auditorium and lets the stage boxes continue as the main component of sets further into the stage, capitalises on the precious fact that we are right at the venue of the world premiere of this “opera of operas”.
